Shirl’s Pointe of View – The STATE THEATER« Back
Shirl’s Pointe of View
The State Theater
One of my favorite ways to spend a few hours of free time is to drive into downtown Traverse City and shelter my vehicle in our conveniently located parking garage. There are many options from there, such as browsing in boutiques, catching a happy hour special at one of our fine restaurants, or spending some time in Horizon Books. This establishment has been here for fifty years, and really is a book store and so much more!
Then I head to my “real” destination, the balcony at our “Movie Palace”, also known as THE STATE THEATER, located in the heart of our eclectic downtown area. The revival of this gem was undoubtedly one of the best things to happen in our town. That it is staffed mostly by enthusiastic volunteers makes it even more special. At this point, I cannot even imagine it not existing.
We are so fortunate to have access to such a variety of films, from thought provoking documentaries, to soul searching dramas, to laugh out loud comedies.
Watching award winning films on the big screen with a canopy of stars overhead while munching on fairly priced snacks is my idea of entertainment!
