Shirl’s Pointe of View – Indoor Market At the Mercato

Shirl’s Pointe of View

I so enjoy meandering through Building 50 at Grand Traverse Commons on Saturday morning. I never know what treasures await between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM when the long hallways are lined with vendors and quite an assortment of offerings.
My first stop was to purchase my favorite farm fresh eggs laid by Katie Bean Larson’s “happy hens”.
Next I happened upon the 9 Bean Rows table and couldn’t resist the almond croissant. It was delicious! Then I snapped up a container of fresh Salsa Verde from Spanglish Catering. She also had authentic tamales.
Lastly I procured a package of hormone and antibiotic free pork breakfast sausage from a young Amish lad and my shopping was done–though there were many more temptations.
The rows of tables held a varied array including dog goodies, dried shitake mushrooms, jellies, honey, caramel sauce, chutney, candies, bread, bread & more bread, pasties, root veggies and more.
The unique and whimsical mittens by the Mitten Lady, made from recycled wool caught my eye (I think I have to go back for some of those).
All of this was in addition to the regular shops.
Then it was time to head to Trattoria Stella to meet a friend for a tasty lunch before heading to Pointes North.

(There’s more to say about Trattoria Stella another day.)
