  • National Cherry Festival — Readers of USA Today voted the week-long National Cherry Festival the #3 Best Specialty Food Festival. Around since 1926, this festival draws more than half a million visitors annually and features 150 events—most of which are free.
  • Northwestern Michigan Fair (Aug) — Since 1908, the Northwestern Michigan Fair has showcased domestic and exotic animals, thrilled guests with amusement rides, and hosted grandstand racing events such as supercross and lawnmower racing.
  • Traverse City Film Festival — This annual film festival takes place at the end of July and showcases films that represent excellence in filmmaking. View documentaries, independent films, and more.
  • Great Lakes Equestrian Festival —  Six weeks of equestrian competition awaits each year thanks to the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival. Riders from around the country compete in several events.
  • Harbor Days — This four-day community festival takes place in Elk Rapids each year and highlights the picturesque harbor of this beautiful town. Come for the events and stay for the fireworks!
  • Venetian Festival — For more than 80 years, the Venetian Festival has been a highlight of the summer, with daily music performances on two stages. Venetian games include youth sports, golf and tennis tournaments, and more.
  • Ironman Triathlon Competition —   Challenge yourself and run this famous local competition, or just enjoy the spirit of competition and cheer on your friends.

Fall

  • Fall Color Tour (Sep-Oct) — Take a free self-guided tour of the fall colors of Old Mission and Leelanau peninsulas during peak season.
  • Wine Harvest Events — Sip on your favorite samples of the local vintages. Enjoy traditional village celebrations like Divas Uncorked and the Leelanau Wine on the Water Festival.
  • Iceman Cometh Bike Race — The Bell’s Beer Iceman Cometh Challenge finishes in Traverse City each year in November. This 30-mile mountain bike race is a can’t-miss event.  

Winter

  • GLSDA’s Icedog Sled Dog Race (Feb) — This family event is free to the public, so gathering everyone to cheer on sled dogs at Cherry Raceway and stay for the food pavilion and bonfire.
  • Suds & Snow (Mar) — If you’re over 21, you owe it to yourself to enjoy this festival that combines a half-mile snowshoe hike with live music and offerings from 12 craft breweries and local food vendors.

Holiday Events
